Account deletion
Last updated: 2026-05-13
1. Overview
LensDay supports a 30-day soft-delete grace period before permanently removing any account. There are two ways to request deletion: from inside the app, or by email.
Both methods produce the same result: your account enters a 30-day grace period during which you can reactivate by signing back in. After 30 days, your data is permanently purged.
This procedure implements your right to erasure under GDPR Article 17.
2. Method 1 — Delete from the app
This is the fastest path and the one we recommend if you still have access to your phone.
- Open the LensDay app.
- Tap the Profile tab.
- Tap Delete account or data.
- Confirm the two-step prompt.
The app signs you out and your account enters the 30-day grace period described in section 4.
3. Method 2 — Delete by email
Use this if you’ve lost access to your device, can’t sign in, or otherwise can’t reach the in-app option.
Send an email to privacy@lensday.app:
- From the email address associated with your LensDay account (so we can match the request to the right account).
- Subject:
Account deletion request. - Body: confirm in one sentence that you want your LensDay account deleted.
We respond within 30 days per GDPR Article 12(3); typically within 1–3 working days. Once we verify the request, your account enters the same 30-day grace period.
4. The 30-day grace period
Once deletion is requested through either method, your account moves into a “pending deletion” state:
- The app signs you out.
- If you sign in again during the 30-day window, you see a Deletion Pending screen with a REACTIVATE ACCOUNT button.
- Tapping that button cancels the deletion immediately. Your account returns to normal with all your data intact.
- If you take no action for 30 days, your data is eligible for permanent purge.
Why a grace period. It protects you from accidental deletions, compromised devices, and decisions you might want to reverse. The grace period is non-negotiable — there is currently no way to skip it and request immediate permanent deletion. If you need immediate removal for a specific legal reason (e.g., a court order), contact privacy@lensday.app and we will work with you.
A note on timing of the physical purge. After the 30-day grace expires, the actual deletion of database rows and stored media files happens on a monthly batch. In the worst case there may be a short additional window (up to ~30 days) between when your data becomes eligible for purge and when it is physically removed from our database and storage. During this window your account stays in the “pending deletion” state and is not accessible to you or to anyone else.
5. What gets deleted
Once the 30-day grace period expires and the purge runs, the following data is permanently erased from our database and our file storage:
- Your profile — name, preferences, coach voice, language, baseline answers, coach context fields
- All your check-ins — text, photos, videos, voice recordings, and the coach responses we generated
- All AI-derived data tied to your account — insights, memory tags, profile facts, enrichment-question records
- All your stored media files — photos, videos, voice recordings uploaded for check-ins
- Your authentication record — the link between your Google sign-in and your LensDay account is severed
Once purged, this data is not recoverable. We do not maintain backups beyond the routine backup window required to restore from operational failures, and any data still in those backups expires within 30 days under normal operations.
6. What we keep — and why
A small set of data persists after the purge, either because law requires it or because operational integrity requires it. None of it identifies you personally once your account is purged:
- Aggregate usage analytics — once your account is purged, the user-account link on analytics rows is severed (by database cascade). What remains is a row that records “an event of type X happened at time Y,” with no link back to you. Retention: up to 24 months from event timestamp.
- Billing and tax records — Spanish tax law (Ley General Tributaria, Art. 66) requires us to retain invoicing and transaction records for at least 4 years. EU VAT rules can extend this to 6 years for certain transactions. These records are kept for tax-audit purposes only.
- Record of your deletion request itself — for our compliance audit trail (showing that we honored your request). Contains a one-way hash of your email address plus a timestamp; no other personal data.
We do not keep:
- Any of your check-in content, photos, voice recordings, or AI-generated content after the 30-day grace expires
- Any identifying profile information
- Any data that would let us reconstruct your account or your check-in history
7. What about my subscription?
Important: deleting your account does NOT cancel an active subscription.
LensDay subscriptions are billed by Google Play, not by us — we do not have direct access to your billing relationship. If you have an active subscription and you request account deletion, the subscription continues to be charged through Google Play until you cancel it there separately.
To cancel a Google Play subscription:
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile picture (top right).
- Tap Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Find LensDay in the list and tap it.
- Tap Cancel subscription.
Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep access to paid features until that date.
Recommended order if you want to stop paying immediately: cancel your subscription in Google Play first, then request account deletion. If you delete your account first and don’t cancel the subscription, Google Play may keep charging you for renewals during the 30-day grace period.
8. Your rights under GDPR Article 17
This deletion procedure implements your right to erasure (sometimes called the “right to be forgotten”) under Article 17 of the General Data Protection Regulation.
- Response time. We respond to verified deletion requests within 30 days, per Article 12(3). The in-app path is effectively immediate; the email path is typically 1–3 working days for verification.
- Extended response. For complex requests we may extend by up to 60 additional days, with notice to you within the initial 30-day window.
- When we cannot delete. A few situations under Article 17(3) allow us to retain data despite a deletion request — for example, when a tax-record obligation overrides erasure for billing data (see section 6). If any such override applies to your request, we will tell you which obligation we are relying on and what data is being retained as a result.
- Right to complain. You can lodge a complaint with the data-protection supervisory authority in your country of residence. See section 8 of our Privacy Policy for the list of national authorities.
